Monday Musings - My love of Turquoise
Yesterday, we celebrated both Mother's Day and my birthday here with a wonderful Sunday brunch. I have raised 2 sons who both enjoy cooking, and so we often center our holidays around food. It was (as always) a great time, and I got to spend the time visiting and talking while the food was prepared - and the kitchen was spotless when they left. Oh, I thought they knew me soo well (almost!).Somehow it came up in conversation that neither of them knew that my favorite color was turquoise - the turquoise beach towel was a happy accident. Obviously, neither of them hang out in the quilt stash often enough...or my Pinterest boards...or my closet. Do you see a theme here? When I cleaned out my stash(the last time, it IS an ongoing process with me), and began using the ruler fold system to fold my yardage, it readily became evident that turquoise is my favorite color - no matter what the style of the fabric.
I remember exactly when my love affair with the color began - it was 1978, and Mike and I had just landed in Bermuda on our honeymoon. We had had a hectic engagement, and this was our first time to breathe. I can still close my eyes and see the beautiful clear waters of their beaches - and see the bright clear colors of their bright pink hibiscus flowers. I literally felt as if I'd been transported to my happy place, and I (apparently) bring that feeling back from the quilt shops often!
Colors have a psychology to them, and turquoise is said to be a happy and friendly color which enjoys life - now that totally makes sense to me.
Is there one color which you are drawn to over others? Have you ever pondered the why of that?
