NEW Lecture: Your Capsule Stash

This lecture invites you to take another look at your creative sewing space, and to make sure that you have just the right mixture of things in it.

Have you made room for your Ugly Fabric?

Yes, you should, and this lecture will give you several reasons why you need it. If you feel as if you have too much fabric, and yet nothing to work with - this lecture will give you specific strategies and techniques to use before heading to the quilt shop. More importantly, it will give you strategies to know when something is a great buy. You CAN still buy fabric, but this will allow you to be strategic - and have more fun in the process!

This lecture lasts about an hour

Group Rates: $450

NEW Lecture: The Mind Body Connection for Quilters

There’s a lot of research which shows that crafting of any sort is good for your body, and your emotions.

Whether it’s the repetitive motion of hands with knitting, or the creative problem solving that comes with working out an intricate pattern or recipe,

crafting helps keep emotions find a pathway to positivity.

Or sometimes, you just need to play with your fabrics

In this lecture, we’ll dive deep into this topic of keeping us young, healthy and active.

Anyone else need to keep their hands busy in times of stress? I know I do.

This lecture lasts about an hour

Group Rates: $450.

Updated Lecture: But I Didn’t Mean to Break the Rules - Copyright

Updated in 2023 for AI

This is a lighthearted, interactive look at a serious subject! Copyright issues are very much at the epicenter of quilting trends today, and a lot of times tempers flare.

Updated content for 2024 including the implications of AI

We’ll take several common scenarios (drawn from real life events), and break them down into easy to understand, easier still to remember rules of the game.  I’ll bring the scripts, and the cards (and maybe even a few prizes) as we learn how to respect the intellectual property of others.

This program lasts about an hour

Group Rate: $450

Lecture:

Ten Quilters You Should Know and Why -Part 1

Did you ever wonder how we came to have all the wonderful tools and materials to work with that we have?

This lecture is designed to highlight the changes in modern American quilt making in the past 30 years.

If you thought that the current contemporary movement began in the 1970s, this presentation will change your mind.

This lecture lasts about an hour,

Group Rates: $450.

Lecture: Ten Quilters You Should Know and Why - Part 2

The story continues in our ever evolving industry, picking up the timeline at the end of Y2K. Broad themes, still prevalent in the industry today, include partnerships with Public Broadcasting and the unlikely town of Hamilton MO.

This presentation is slightly different than the first one; we’re talking themes and the quilters who played a part in those themes.

This presentation lasts about an hour.

Group Rates: $450

Lecture and Trunk Show: If you Give a Quilter a Challenge

This is a lighthearted trunk show about the Challenge quilts that I have made over my life as a quilter. I tend to take challenge prompts liberally, and the results are often unexpected - even for me.

This Trunk show has taken my guild challenges (and yes, there’s a spreadsheet!) and augmented them from my time as an Island Batik Ambassafor - so there’s a large view inside my quilters mind.

This program runs about an hour.

Group Rate: $450

Lecture 4

Why Do All My Quilts Look the Same?

Are you locked into your comfort zone, making variations of the same color palette over and over, because you are not sure where to go next? In this lecture, well explore the basics of color theory, and help to discover the quickest end to boredom you’ve ever seen.

This program lasts about an hour.

Group Rate: $450

Workshop: Color Love Quilt by

Sew Kind of Wonderful Workshop

This quilt is everything I love in a quilt - a colorful focal point, a scrappy background, and symmetry in design. When you add in an easy piecing method for making the blocks, designed by Sew Kind of Wonderful, you have a quilt that you will love for years to come.

This quilt is made using the Sew Kind of Wonderful Mini Curve Ruler, and the companion book Mini Wonderful Curves. Both items are required to take this class with me. The other thing you will need is scraps (as long as it’s bigger than a charm piece, you can use it).

This 6 hour workshop will have you playing with color and design.

Group Rates: $700

Workshop: Diamond Daze Pattern

Sew Kind of Wonderful

This quilt is a new addition to the workshop lineup for 2024. This quilt combines scraps from Tula Pink, and blacks from my stash to make an energetic quilt which makes a statement.

This quilt is made using Sew Kind of Wonderful’s Quick Straight Ruler to make a half rectangle based quilt. It’s very easy to do - but the trick is in the sewing organization.

You also need the pattern Diamond Daze to make this quilt.

This 6 hour workshop will have you playing with color and design.

Group Rates: $700

Workshop: October Eve Quilt by Sew Kind of Wonderful

The movement of the leaves and the colors makes me think of the leaves blowing here in New England in October. This quilt is perfect for scraps - or precuts! If the piece is larger than a 5” square, you can use it in this quilt. An alternate setting is a 3 block runner, which would be a great autumnal accent.

This quilt is made using the Sew Kind of Wonderful Mini Curve Ruler, and the companion book Mini Wonderful Curves. Both items are required to take this class with me. The method has you cutting apart the 5” block wit the Ruler, combining fabrics from two different blocks to sew back together, and then trimming to a perfect 4” block…then the fun begins with layout.

Piecing with curves is fun and painless - let me show you how to do this in this 6 hour workshop.

Group Rates: $700.

Workshop - Straight Line Rulers for your Domestic

Straight Line Rulers are the shape that most experts recommend you begin with, because there is a single point of contact between the ruler foot and the ruler itself. Your machine set up has the feed dogs dropped (or covered), and it may feel a bit awkward at first.

In this class, you’ll discover what to look for when looking for a first ruler, how to read it, and you’ll walk through several of the designs shown on the sample.

You’ll receive a handout with the details of how to stitch each of the motifs in the sample, whether we get to them in class. At the end of the 3 hour class, the goal is to leave feeling more comfortable with straight line ruler quilting.

A detailed supply list is available to your group’s Program Committee upon receipt of a signed contract.

Group Rates: $400

Workshop: Perspectives in the Sky

This workshop is offered as a companion to my color workshop, Why do ALL my Quilts look the same? Have you ever noticed that when you look up in the sky, you can see items close to you clearer and bigger, while items in the distance are smaler and muted in color? In this workshop, we’ll explore that idea using ka Hot Air Balloons as the vehicle.

Perspectives is 22W x 29 1/2” L

Before you pull your fabrics tor your project, let me give you some ideas as to what to pull from your stash. The blocks on the left are birds in the Air blocks, and are easy to make. Or you can widen your background, and add more Dirigibles. It’s up to you.

My intention is to allow you to take this technique and apply it to other items - such as Mountains, roads, birds, planes, building… any time you want to add dimension to your quilt.

This is a 6 hour class, and it includes my pattern. There is a small kit fee which will cover the 3 hot air balloons in the project.

Group Rates: $700.00

Workshop: My Jane Quilt

This fast, easy scrap quilt is a super sized Flying goose quilt, perfect for beginners. This is a great project for a bunch of Fat Quarters, yardage, scraps - or anything/and everything in between.

This 3 hour workshop will have you playing with color and design. This is designed by me as a comfort quilt -because all quilts should be beautiful. Perfect for a baby, a dorm or a couch, this super simple construction method will quickly be a staple in your quilting arsenal…and it easily adapts to any color scheme.

A great, low stress workshop for your guild.

Group Rates: $400.

Workshop:

Spring Morn Tablerunner

This is a fun, and fast way to create a runner (or a quilt) using just one seam.

The magic is in making the geese fly across your runner.

This is a great gift, a great holiday runner - a great skill builder if you’ve ever struggled with the Flying Goose Block.

There are no rulers needed for this runner, and you will get great results every time.

This is perfect for a scrap bin buster, a stash buster - or if you have a beautiful Jelly roll that you need an idea for…this is perfect for that too!.

The workshop is about 4 to 4 and a half hours in length, and you’ll be able to work through quilting designs.

Group rate is $400 for the class…

Workshop: Easy Binding Techniques

This is a FUN, FUNctional and FUNdamental approach to binding your quilts. Binding is one of the last details you put into finishing your quilt, and it’s the one that (in my experience), people dislike the most.

In this class, we will cover flange bindings, two color bindings, striped bindings, and invisible bindings.

This is a 6 hour workshop program,

Group Rate: $700.
