Monday Musings -

Good morning...

downloadBREAKING NEWS: Beautiful sunny weather has broken out in the Northeast, and for the second weekend in a row, Mike and I took the car out for a Sunday morning 'date'.  Today, we explored a piece of history in our own backyard (practically) that we were unfamiliar with. Try googling Monson NH and hear about an interesting piece of history. Oh, and there was a gluten free lunch involved, then a nap. Life is good!

I have been very gratified with the response to my Little Gem blog hop - I'm loving reading the comments you've left, and I am pleased to know that so many of you are fans not only of my piece, but of the pineapple block specifically. I had a lot of fun making it, and I'm pretty sure it won't be the only time I make something from the book.  If you commented, thank you for taking the time to do so.

The winner of the e book is Alison CB, and the winner of the scarf is 'Anonymous' - but you did leave an email address.  I have emailed both of you, so ladies please check your email and Congratulations.

So as it turns out, my Little Gem is leaving me this week - it's my donation to this year's online quilt Auction sponsored by The Ovarian Cancer Research Project. The 2015 Online Quilt Auction will benefit the Blanton-Davis Ovarian Cancer Research Program at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. When I was in Houston last fall, I had the chance to see the auction exhibit at Quilt Festival and read the stories behind the quilts.  Through innovative research, this program aims to develop effective screening methods and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer.  The OCRF has been engaged in this project since 2002.

As a quilter, I am often asked to donate time to make charity quilts - and I am happy to do so through my local quilt guild charity projects.  However, this is different in that Ovarian Cancer Research is now the designated charity for The Patchwork Pearl - and the Cornerstones Newsletter. Going forward, I will be making this an ongoing initiative through various efforts of mine throughout the year.  Yes, this cancer has touched someone in my family.

The quilt will be heading to Texas this week, and  it should be available for bidding in the online auction for this year, which lasts from October 21st to November 4.  Please consider bidding on a quilt donated to this effort.
