(Tipmas) How to bring a UFO back from the edge
In this today’s blog post, I have a confession to make on this project. I love this tree, and I have since I pieced it for a Christmas project several years ago. It’s been unquilted up until this point, because I made a mistake on it, and every time I pulled it out of the pile to see how bad it really was - I just couldn’t figure out a way around it.
Enter 2020 - the year I will always remember as the year we can’t us “I have no time” as an excuse. This year, I dug it out early to ponder it. Instead of fixating on how could I have made such an issue (read that as why isn’t it perfect”…I remembered the slogan that my guild runs on.
Done is better than perfect. We are a really cool group of ladies, and yes, we do have our own slogan. There are really 3 problems with this one…and not having binding isn’t one of them - it was pinned to it.
Problem 1 is that the buttons are glued on, and its sandwiched but not yet quilted. OK, we'll that’s not the end of the world - I can just go as carefully (and slowly) around the buttons, and move on.
Problem 2 is that there paper pieces don’t entirely match up in some spots- but it’s assembled too far in the process to take it apart. This solution was really stupid easy…it turns out my local big box store has buttons - who knew? I found some that are red and sparkly - and there’s no such thing as a tree with too many ornaments on it, is there?
I pulled all the greens out to see which ones will work.
There’s a great variety of fabrics in the piece, thanks to the fabric collection from Island Batik. In this case, I’m partial to the lime green in the top of the photo, but I’ll probably chicken out and go with the deep green. I can’t wait to see how this comes out. Check back to my instagram feed later this week to see how I did.
