Fall Favorite - October Eve (new class!)
Many quilters - and guilds - who I have spoken with mention that they like to have quilts in their homes that reflect the seasons. It’s also a popular gift idea - there’s something about a quilt.
I’m like you, in that many of the rooms in my own home are decorated with quilts.
This is a quilt that I LOVE to have up in the fall - and I can’t wait to share it with you.
The quilt pattern is called October Eve, and it’s written by Sew Kind of Wonderful. This quilt is made using their Mini Wonderful Curve ruler, and although I’m not supposed to have favorites in the ruler family…this one is very user friendly to use.
October Eve is also a great opportunity to shop your stash and select you favorite fall colors. No two leaves are alike, and there are many beautiful shades and hues that you can find on a walk in October. I paired the bright beautiful colors with a series of deep purples and ochres for the background, and that makes this quilt just pop. You can easily leave this up form Labor Day through Thanksfgiving and it just works!
The quilt is made of four (just 4) blocks, rotated around to give a secondary pattern from the leaves. It measures 35” by 35”, which makes this a great candidate to practice your quilting skills on your domestic machine. I did some easy loops on the leaves, and balanced that with some easy straight line walking foot quilting for the background. Here’s a ‘full frontal’ photo so you can get a better look at the quilt.
Since I’ve mentioned Thanksgiving (and decorating) in the same sentence…this would be absolutely stunning as a runner on your table with just 3 blocks. I’d add in some candles and or some mums, and call it good. Depending on your table size, you can either add a border or just bind it as is.
In order to make this quilt, you need the ruler and the book that contains the pattern which works with the ruler. Sew Kind of Wonderful has a very large catalog of patterns, and it can sometimes seem overwhelming (but it’s really not). There’s a secret to it. The rulers and their supporting books and patterns are color coded. The QCR Mini Curve Ruler has blue company logos on it, and so do the patterns it works with. (The company’s original ruler, the Quick Curve Ruler has yellow green colors on it). If you already have the ruler and the book, that’s great! If not, both items are available in my website store…and I’d love to help you out with that.
In order to take this Zoom class with me on Saturday, September 16th at 9 AM, you need to pre-register for the class. The fee is $60, and the class is about a 5 hour class. Once I receive your payment, we’ll send you the confirmation email which includes your zoom link details.
