A quilting partner who’s heart is as big as her talent - meet Cheryl.
I have often said I have the best girlfriends in the business, and today’s blog post will introduce you to one of them. Longtime readers of this blog will recognize the name Cheryl Szynkowski of North Port, FL. Cheryl is the longarm quilter who I partner with in the auction quilt that we sent to the MD Anderson Ovarian Cancer Quilt Auction. This is our third collaboration.
If you remember recent social media posts about the Flying Flimsy on a Fence heading to Florida…that’s this year’s quilt. And for those of you who are wondering, these geese are made with the One Seam method I also used in Spring Morn. Fabrics from my Kaffe Fassett stash make them look amazing
Cheryl and I have a wonderful give and take when it comes to this project.. We do speak throughout the design and piecing process - we talk just about every couple of weeks anyway!. Although I had sent Cheryl some progress photos on my side of the process, she hadn’t seen a full frontal shot until I sent her this one.
I know that Cheryl’s talents are as a custom longarm quilter (with a bent towards a modern easthetic), and I designed this quilt to appeal to a more contemporary quilter. I also wanted to give Cheryl plenty of room to play. As a matter of fact, that was my direction to her - play, and go with your gut. The completed top is now back to me, and I am working on the finishing so I can take a proper set of photos for the grand reveal. Until then, I will be doing some sneak peaks along the way. Once the quilt is in Houston, and the bidding is opened, you’ll hear from us on this one.
I met Cheryl in an ice cream social line at an MQX show several years ago - her infectious social butterfly persona drew me in as soon as we bonded over chocolate. What I have come to know is an intensely talented artist who works with some of the most talented designers in the business, all the while serving the quilting community in Florida as she does it. I love her, and I know you are going to too.
Cheryl Szynkowski will be my guest tonight on an After Dark edition of my Facebook Live feed from One Quilting Circle. It’ll also be out on Youtube afterwards…come and hear about her work.
Hi, I’m Linda Pearl - quilter, teacher, designer and blogger, and I’m happy to have you here. I’d like to tell you a little bit more About Me…
