(Tipmas) My last UFO finish of 2020
My tree is up in the sewing room…
This morning, I began the day with my 10 AM Wednesday Facebook live, and I covered a lot of ground - current industry events, upcoming classes for me, and a glimpse at 5 of my favorite books in my quilting library. In my case, it was actually 8, because three were from the same author. Here’s a recap for you of this morning’s stream.
We had quite a snow day here in the North east, and the rebel in me came out. I am very motivated by deadlines, and knowing that we’re a little more than a week until Christmas was all the motivation I needed to tuck into this one. It has been on my UFO list for several years, and it had made it to the quilt sandwich phase of the process. Everytime I went to pick it up, I tossed it aside. I knew what the issues were (or some of them; others revealed themselves while I was quilting it today.) Once we blew past Christmas Day, I knew I’d have no ambition to finish this in 2020. It looks very 2020, in my opinion - but it’s done, so yeah! One less UFO in the closet tonight.
This is the “A Little Bit Shorter Tall Tree” by Cindi Edgerton, and this project dates back to when I was an Island Batik Ambassador - that’s their gorgeous Christmas fabric that is featured in it. I would love to take another crack at this pattern another time - maybe instead of working with traditional colors such as Red and Green, try some alternative colors for Christmas - flamingo pink, turquoise and lime green maybe. Can you tell I am glad to have this one off the list?
One of the issues I had was I attached the buttons far too early in the process, and they became a hindrance to the quilting process. I also didn’t have enough buttons to finish this. What I did have is plenty of gold fabric in the Christmas box - and my Cricut Maker. Once I began to think along those lines, I made additional ornaments and even a star for the top of the tree.
